Kristin Dolz | Erosive Modeling
Kristin Dolz, Master Thesis 2015
Through a tactile approach that is oriented towards process rather than results, forces and modes of action between material, object and designer are turned into a productive interplay. This method is characterized by creating continuous curvatures and shaping geometries dynamically through the use of an abrasive particle stream. Translated into an interaction concept for a digital tool new design options emerge: a virtual abrasive particle simulation enables repetition, transfer and inversion of procedures within the form-finding process. The blending of surfaces and the fading of edges that result from this erosive method are creating a self-evident form and an inherent aesthetic.
